Paying for an influencer campaign without checking the influencer's follower quality is like buying a billboard without confirming traffic counts. An Instagram influencer tracker gives you the follower history, growth patterns, and authenticity data you need to invest confidently — before you write the check.

Follower count is the most frequently cited metric in influencer proposals, and the easiest to fake. Buying 100,000 followers costs as little as $50 on follower-selling sites. Without a historical growth check, you cannot tell whether those 100,000 followers represent two years of organic growth or a weekend of bot purchases.
What to Check Before Signing an Influencer Deal
1. Follower Count History and Growth Chart
Add the influencer's handle to our Instagram Followers Tracker and examine the growth chart. Organic growth looks like a gradual slope with occasional spikes tied to viral content or press coverage. Purchased followers appear as a near-vertical spike followed by a gradual decay as Instagram purges the bots.
2. Authenticity Score
After collecting enough snapshots, our tracker generates an authenticity score for the account. This score reflects how organic the growth pattern looks statistically. A score below 60 warrants careful scrutiny; below 40 is a strong red flag.
3. Engagement Rate
An influencer with 500,000 followers and 800 likes per post has a 0.16% engagement rate — far below the expected 0.5-1.5% for that size. Low engagement relative to follower count is a near-certain sign of fake followers or a disengaged audience.
4. Growth Trend Direction
Is the account growing, plateauing, or declining? An influencer whose follower count has been flat for six months may have stagnant reach. One who has been growing consistently for a year has momentum and an expanding audience.
Red Flags That Should Kill a Deal
- Follower count spike of more than 20% in a single week (not tied to obvious viral event)
- Engagement rate below 0.5% for accounts under 500K followers
- Multiple spike-and-decay cycles on the growth chart
- Follower count declining while they claim "growing reach"
- Huge follower count difference between Instagram and their other platforms (bots are Instagram-specific)
Building an Influencer Tracking Dashboard
If you work with influencers regularly — as a brand, agency, or PR firm — set up ongoing monitoring for your roster. Add each influencer you work with or are considering to our Instagram tracking tools. This gives you a permanent record of their growth trajectories that you can reference for future negotiations and post-campaign analysis.
Micro vs. Macro Influencer Tracking
Micro-influencers (5K to 100K followers) often show higher engagement rates and more authentic audiences than mega-influencers. They are also easier to vet because their growth history is more recent and their follower lists are small enough for manual sampling. Use the same tracking approach but set engagement rate benchmarks accordingly — micro-influencers should show 3-8% engagement, not the 0.5-2% typical at macro scale.

💡Always track an influencer for at least two weeks before finalizing a deal. Seven or more daily snapshots give our authenticity scoring enough data to be meaningful. A deal that can wait two weeks is worth waiting for.
