Instagram Creator Account Analytics

A complete breakdown of what analytics Instagram Creator accounts provide — and what they do not. How to fill the gaps with third-party follower tracking tools.

Instagram's Creator account type gives content creators access to analytics that personal accounts do not have. But even Creator Insights has significant blind spots — particularly around historical data and competitor benchmarking. This guide covers what you get natively and how to fill the gaps.

What Creator Accounts Get Natively

  • Follower count change over 7, 14, 30, or 90 days
  • Audience demographics: age, gender, location breakdown
  • Best time to post: when your specific audience is most active
  • Reach and impressions per post
  • Profile visits and website clicks
  • Story performance: views, exits, interactions
  • Reel performance: plays, reach, engagement
  • Branded content tools for partner posts
  • Creator Studio access for desktop analytics

What Creator Analytics CANNOT Show

  • Follower count history beyond 90 days
  • Competitor account analytics
  • Historical follower count chart with daily granularity
  • Who specifically unfollowed you
  • Engagement rates across different content categories over time
  • Exportable data in CSV or spreadsheet format (native Insights)

Filling the Gaps with Our Tracker

Our Instagram Followers Tracker complements Creator Insights by providing what the native tool lacks: unlimited follower count history, a daily-granularity growth chart, and the ability to track competitor accounts. Where Creator Insights shows your last 90 days, our tracker shows your full history from the day you add your account.

How to Switch to a Creator Account

  1. 1.Open Instagram → tap your profile picture
  2. 2.Go to Settings (gear icon) → Account
  3. 3.Tap "Switch to Professional Account"
  4. 4.Select "Creator" (not Business) if you are a content creator
  5. 5.Choose your category — select the most relevant option
  6. 6.Analytics unlock immediately with no data collected yet

Switching to a Creator account is free and reversible. It does not change how your profile appears to others and does not require any followers minimum. The Insights data begins accumulating from the day you switch.

💡If you switch from Personal to Creator, all future analytics are captured. But historical follower count data is not retroactively available in Insights. This is why setting up our tracker early is valuable — we can backfill historical data from public archives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Instagram Creator account free?

Yes. Switching to a Creator account is completely free. It unlocks Analytics, the Creator Studio desktop tool, branded content features, and more — all at no cost.

What is the difference between Creator and Business account on Instagram?

Creator accounts are designed for content creators with features like flexible profile display, Creator Studio access, and creator-specific categories. Business accounts are designed for brands with access to advertising tools and a more business-oriented profile display. Both unlock full Insights.

Can I see my Instagram follower growth history beyond 90 days?

Not through native Insights. The maximum in-app historical window is 90 days. Our tracker stores follower count snapshots indefinitely, giving you unlimited history going forward from when you add your account.
